Vote for your institution’s distinguished alumnus to become the winner of the Wachovia’s Create the Legacy Award. Click below to vote for your distinguished alumnus.

All MEAC Distinguished Alumni will be honored on Alumni Night during half time of the 8PM game on Thursday, March 11, 2010 at the annual Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournament at Joel Coliseum in Winston-Salem, NC. The winner of the Wachovia’s Create the Legacy award will be announced at that time. The winning institution’s Distinguished Alumnus (with the most votes) will receive the Wachovia MEAC Create the Legacy Award and their institution alumni association will be awarded $2,000 in the name of Distinguished Alumnus.

Alumnus of Bethune-Cookman University, Mr. Grant holds a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing and an MBA from the University of Miami. He is currently the Senior Vice President and National Sales Director for Bacardi.
Quincy Lucas - Delaware State University Quincy Lucas - Delaware State University
Alumnus of Delaware State University, a two time graduate Mrs. Lucas holds a Bachelor’s in Elementary Education and a Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction. Mrs. Lucas is the Founder and President of Whitney’s Lights, Inc. During the past election Mrs. Lucas nominated Sen. Biden at the Democratic National Convention in Denver, Colorado, making history as both the first Delawarean and the first African American woman to play such a pivotal role in the election process.
Kendrick Brett Meek - Florida A&M University Kendrick Brett Meek - Florida A&M University
Alumnus of Florida A&M University, Meek earned a Bachelor’s in Criminal Justice in 1989. In 2007, Mr. Meek was appointed to the NATO parliamentary Assembly, and is one of only 12 members of Congress to Represent the United States on the Assembly.
Tami Simmons - Hampton University Tami Simmons - Hampton University
Alumnus of Hampton University, Mrs. Simmons received a Bachelor’s degree from Hampton and a Master’s from North Carolina Central University. She is currently with Wachovia serving as their Senior Vice President and Director of Corporate Philanthropy for the Eastern United States.
Delphine S. Lee - University of Maryland Eastern Shore Delphine S. Lee - University of Maryland Eastern Shore
Alumnus of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, Mrs. Lee has served as the president of the UMES Baltimore Alumni Chapter for more than a decade. Delphine, along with husband, Earl Lee, are in the process of establishing an endowment, which will benefit the students at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.
William R. Roberts - Morgan State University William R. Roberts - Morgan State University
Alumnus of Morgan State University, in 1977, Mr. Roberts earned his Bachelor’s in Business Administration and is currently the Region President for Verizon in Maryland and the District of Columbia. Mr. Roberts is currently a member of the Morgan State Board of Regents.
Shelvee Holley Osborne - Norfolk State University Shelvee Holley Osborne - Norfolk State University
Alumnus of Norfolk State University, Ms. Osborne received her Bachelor’s in Business Administration in 1979 and a Master’s Certificate in Project Management from George Washington University in 2008. She currently works at the Headquarters office of the Internal Revenue Service, as a senior level Program Manager.
Willie Deese - North Carolina A&T State University Willie Deese - North Carolina A&T State University
Alumnus of North Carolina A&T State University, Mr. Deese serves as a member of the Merck’s Management Committee and reports directly to Merck’s CEO and President Mr. Richard T. Clark. In 2004, Mr. Deese was presented the Alumni Excellence Award from his alma mater and in 2008 was appointed to the North Carolina A&T University Board of Trustees.
Brigadier General Stephen Twitty - South Carolina State University Brigadier General Stephen Twitty - South Carolina State University
Alumnus of South Carolina State, Brigadier General Twitty holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Central Michigan and a Master’s in National Security Strategy from the National War College. Brigadier General Twitty was awarded the Silver Star Medal for his actions as an infantry Battalion commander during the fall of Baghdad in 2003. He has also been awarded the Defense Superior Service Medal as well as the Legion of Merit. Brigadier General Twitty was inducted into the Army ROTC Hall of Fame in 2009.
