MORGAN STATE WINS 2015 MEAC CHEERLEADING CHAMPIONSHIP < All News

NORFOLK, Va., March 8, 2015 – Morgan State captured the 2015 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Cheerleading Championship on Sunday night at Echols Hall on the campus of Norfolk State University. South Carolina State’s Bulldog was named the Mascot of the Year present by iHeart Radio,. Morgan State won its five straight cheerleading title and 10th overall, while the Bulldog of South Carolina State repeated as the mascot champion. “I am happy for our win,” Morgan State head coach Theresa Gibson said. “I am happy for our seven seniors who got their fourth ring and that is really what matters. The competition here is getting better and better. We were on pins and needles the whole time.” Florida A&M finished second, while South Carolina State placed third in the overall division. In the All-Girls Division, Morgan State repeated as champions, while Hampton and Maryland Eastern Shore finished in second and third, respectively. The Bulldog of South Carolina State emerged victorious after battling for the crown against mascots from Bethune-Cookman, Florida A&M, Maryland Eastern Shore and Savannah State. Florida A&M won the Co-ed Division, followed by South Carolina State and Bethune-Cookman. In the All-Star Division, Florida A&M’s Shelinta Cunningham took home the first-place trophy, while Morgan State’s Kayla Lane-Issescas placed second. Shaqvisha Wilcox of Bethune-Cookman finished third. The 2015 MEAC Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournament begins Monday, March 9 at The Scope Arena in Norfolk, Va.
