MEAC Cheerleading Championship Set for March 8 < All News

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va., - The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) will host its annual cheerleading championship, Monday, March 8 beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Joel Coliseum (2825 University Parkway) in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

MEAC member institutions' cheerleading teams will compete in the championship which will broadcast live on for the third straight year.

Admission to the championship is $5 per person. Tickets will go on sale through Ticketmaster outlets and the Joel Coliseum Box Office beginning November 16.

The cheerleading championship, held in conjunction with the MEAC Basketball Tournament, will tip-off action at the Joel Coliseum for the 2010 MEAC Basketball Tournament.

The Aggies of North Carolina A&T won first place honors for the third consecutive year during last year’s championship. In addition to winning in the overall performance category, the Aggies also won the all‐girls division and the all‐star division.

North Carolina A&T’s Lintandra Latham won in the All‐Star division while Regan Hales of Winston‐Salem State placed second and Chelsea Spoon of Morgan State finished third.

The South Carolina State Bulldogs were second in the overall performance category while the Florida A&M Rattlers finished third in overall team performance.

About the MEAC Basketball Tournament

The MEAC Basketball Tournament is a single elimination championship playoff that involves 11 Division I historically black colleges and universities located across the Atlantic coastline: Bethune-Cookman, Coppin State, Delaware State, Florida A&M, Hampton, Howard, Maryland Eastern Shore, Morgan State, Norfolk State, North Carolina A&T State, and South Carolina State.

The tournament is played at the Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Winston-Salem North Carolina. Both the men’s and women’s tournament champion receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
