NORFOLK, Va. – The season is not over quite yet for the Norfolk State men’s basketball team, as it was announced on Sunday that the Spartans will compete in the CollegeInsider.com Tournament for the second straight season.
It will also mark the fourth straight year the Spartan program will compete in the postseason. NSU will travel to Richmond, Kentucky to play at Eastern Kentucky on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in a first-round game of the seventh annual CIT.
The Colonels finished 19-11 this year and 11-5 in the Ohio Valley Conference and are making their third straight postseason appearance. EKU lost to Belmont in the OVC semifinals on March 6 and will have 11 days in between that game and the matchup with the Spartans.
NSU, meanwhile, comes into the game 20-13 overall for its third 20-win season of the Division I era, all coming within the past four years. The Spartans went 12-4 in MEAC play and finished as the runner-up in the regular season standings. NSU fell in the conference semifinals on Friday, 75-64 to Hampton.
Live video of the game against Eastern Kentucky at McBrayer Arena will be available on CollegeInsider.com. The game will also be broadcast locally on Hot 91.1 FM and Star 1310 AM with Ross Gordon on the call.
To order tickets or for more information, call the EKU ticket office at (859) 622-2122.
The CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament was created in 2009. Invitations to the 32-team postseason tournament are extended only to teams outside of the BCS power conferences. There is no formal bracket for the tournament. The match-ups for each round are determined after the preceding round is completed.
The first round will be played on Tuesday and Wednesday. Second-round CIT games will be played Friday and Saturday, quarterfinal games on March 24-25 and semifinal games March 31. The championship game will be played on April 2. The semifinals and the championship game will be broadcast live on CBS Sports Network.
