DURHAM, N.C. – The North Carolina Central
University men's basketball team will play the University of Miami on Tuesday,
March 17 at 7 p.m. inside the BankUnited Center in Coral Gables, Florida,
during the opening round of the National Invitation Tournament (NIT). The game
will air live on ESPN2.
NCCU (25-7, 16-0 MEAC) was selected as a No. 7 seed, while Miami (21-12, 10-8 ACC) is a No. 2 seed.
This will be NCCU's first trip to the NIT. The Hurricanes are making their 12th appearance in the NIT, having gone 1-1 in the event in the 2011-12 postseason.
The Eagles and Hurricanes have previously met three times with Miami winning all three contests.
NCCU made history in 2014-15 by becoming the first men's basketball team in school history to post an unbeaten regular-season conference record at 16-0. Although the Eagles had the nation's longest conference win streak of 35 games come to an end in the MEAC Tournament semifinals on Friday, NCCU still owns the best regular-season conference record during the last three seasons at 46-2, a winning percentage of .958.

Achieved undefeated 16-0 mark in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference to win second straight regular-season title;
Recorded 19 wins with only two losses since mid-December;
Played nationally-ranked Maryland to within 11 points (67-56 on Dec. 10) and nationally-ranked North Carolina to 16 points (76-60 on Nov. 14);
Ranked among the top-5 defenses in NCAA Division I: second in field goal percentage defense, second in three-point field goal percentage defense and fourth in scoring defense;
Earned non-conference Division I wins over Eastern Illinois, Northern Arizona, Mississippi Valley State, Jackson State and IUPUI;
Extended second-longest home win streak in NCAA Division I at 35 victories in-a-row (behind Arizona);
Continued best regular-season conference record in NCAA Division I during the last three seasons at 46-2 (.958 winning percentage);
Tallied third consecutive 20-win season (overall record of 75-22 in last three seasons).
