The MEAC announced details on the ancillary schedule of events and entertainment line-up for the 2014 MEAC Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournament. The MEAC Tournament tips off March 10-15 at the Norfolk Scope Arena in Norfolk, Virginia.
The annual MEAC Men’s and Women’s Tournament brings all 13-member teams together under one roof competing for the conference tournament title and a chance to play in the Big Dance, the NCAA Division I Championship. To see the official MEAC bracket, visit MEAChoops.com.
The tournament schedule of events features an array of community activities and fun-filled entertainment line-up. Below is a breakdown of all promotional activities:
Second Annual MEAC Youth Clinic
Tournament fun begins on Saturday, March 8 from 2-4 PM with the Second Annual MEAC Youth Clinic at Echol’s Hall at Norfolk State University. The Youth Clinic is a community outreach program that connects youth ages 10-12 with MEAC head coaches of both men’s and women’s programs. Participants participate in basketball drills with the MEAC head coaches and gain valuable information through open discussions on various youth sports issues. The 2014 MEAC Cheerleading Championship features competitive squads from the conference’s member institutions showcasing their talents through jumps, partner stunts, pyramids, tosses, tumbling, and motion and dance routines. Along with the participating MEAC Institutions, area middle and high schools, as well as recreational cheerleading teams will be performing. Hall of Fame
The five-member 2014 MEAC Hall of Fame class will be enshrined on Friday, March 14 at the Sheraton Waterside Hotel in Norfolk, Virginia. Tickets for the induction brunch are $35 per seat or $300 per table (10 persons). Tickets can be purchased by calling the MEAC office at 757-951-2055.
The entertainment line-up includes the Pre-Tournament Concert featuring Fantasia, Friday, March 7 at Chrysler Hall, Official Meet and Greet Mixer, Thursday, March 13 at the Marriott Waterside Hotel Piano Lounge, followed by the Celebrity Explosion, Friday, March 14 at the Half Moon in Norfolk, Virginia, and the Official Championship After Party, Saturday, March 15 at the Norfolk Marriott Waterside Hotel. About the MEAC Men and Women’s Basketball Tournament
The MEAC Men and Women’s Basketball Tournament is a single elimination championship playoff that involves Division I historically black colleges and universities located across the Atlantic coastline: Bethune-Cookman, Coppin State, Delaware State, Florida A&M, Hampton, Howard, Maryland Eastern Shore, Morgan State, Norfolk State, North Carolina A&T State, North Carolina Central, Savannah State, and South Carolina State.
The tournament is played at the Norfolk Scope Arena in Virginia. The championship games will air on ESPNU. Both the men’s and women’s champion will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
