Hall-Woodward Elementary won the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Read with the MEac community reading program for the second consecutive year and was honored with a party at their school on Monday morning.
The Read with the MEac program encourages fifth graders in the Winston-Salem Forsyth County School System (WSFCS )to read non-exclusive books during a four week span. The program was organized by the conference’s Senior Woman’s Administrators (SWA) and is aimed at encouraging education and promoting the love of reading to students.
The students of Hall-Woodward Elementary read a total of 3,110 books. Over 6,500 books were read by the nine participating schools. The participants in the program received a bookmark and a ticket voucher to the 2010 MEAC Basketball Tournament, March 9-13, at the Joel Coliseum.
Representatives of the men’s and women’s basketball teams of the MEAC’s 12 member institutions were on hand to read to the students of Hall-Woodward. The top eight readers at the winning school were invited to serve as ball boys/girls during the tournament.
