A mirror’s most profound ability is the fact that just a simple glance can deliver a powerful reflection. When one looks into a mirror, they visualize someone, or something, which stares back. Some days, I see a set of gray eyes, a nose, and a two flesh colored lips. Other days, I see a passionate soul reaching out, desperately pleading to be seen and embraced. Within this soul of mine, I see a young lady whom wishes to fulfill her potential by helping others realize their own. I have found that this very act of reaching out to others nurtures and awakens my soul, even on those days when I look in the mirror and stare right past it.

When choosing my platform, it was second nature to conclude on what I ultimately decided to do. I proceeded forth without hesitation. With the permission and determination of my soul, I went straight to work. Promoting growth and enhancing self esteem in young women has already been life changing which justifies why I chose this as my platform. I have had the privilege of interacting with young girls in my community within the past several months. As I have inspired them, they have in turn inspired me. They have inspired me to continue to make a difference.

The best part about my platform which involves mentoring young girls, is the fact that by serving as a positive role model for these young ladies, I have the opportunity to own that for myself; to realize my own potential to be the best representative for my school, my community, my nation, and for my own being. I have learned that by giving of myself, I receive so much more in return. I have received inspiration, ambition, and the yearning to continually innovate ways in which I can reach out to young girls whom so desperately need guidance and encouragement to be pushed in the right direction.

In addition to the many ways in which I have already been able to execute my platform; such as girl talk sessions, educational forums on healthy body image, group activities which focus on realizing dreams and potential, there is much more that I look forward to accomplishing. My vision is to use my platform to empower young women by ways of motivational speaking, interacting, implementing, and instilling in young women the idea of believing in themselves. With great expectations and unshakeable faith, we as women have been given the gift to be resiliently unstoppable.

Being honored with the title of Miss Hampton University has awarded me with an abundance of opportunities to further develop and enhance my service to my platform. I deeply appreciate the amount of networking available to me; allowing me to seek ways to work with various groups and organizations throughout my community. This has truly been such an exciting and fulfilling part of winning this title. Furthermore, with the title of Miss MEAC, I am convinced that I will be able to increasingly utilize my platform which will surely reach out to even more young girls with the idea that when you work hard, challenge yourself, and face your fears, anything is possible!
