Founded in 1910 by Dr. James E. Shepard, North Carolina Central University was America's first public liberal arts college founded to educate African-Americans. More than a century later, the university is now a master's level comprehensive institution that offers bachelor's and master's degrees, a juris doctorate and Ph.D. in Integrated Biosciences to a diverse student population that includes students from the continents of Africa, Asia, South America and Europe. NCCU offers bachelor's degrees in nearly 100 fields of study and graduate degrees in more than 40 disciplines. NCCU alumni contribute to the global economy by serving in senior leadership roles at Fortune 500 companies, managing non-profit organizations, serving as managers, mayors, representatives and other elected officials. They are also busy educating the next generation of students and overseeing school districts in communities across the United States.
